I have worked with Ken on this issue and we've yet to figure a solution.  
I'm using Turnkey Mediawiki software appliance.

Hi Alan

I really do not know what that issue is. All I know is your CSS information 
between
the <style> tags specifically is being removed. I've never seen that before. 
Perhaps
MediaWiki is removing them with a custom setting? I know there's a setting that
disables user CSS by default, but not sure about a setting that would disable an
extensions CSS.

You may try posting on the MediaWiki site forum and ask.
