Add new term: abnormal circulating myoglobin level (a child of abnormal circulating protein level MP:0005416) DEF: anomaly in the blood level of myoglobin, a low molecular weight oxygen binding heme protein that is normally found exclusively in heart and skeletal muscle cells; in blood, myoglobin is bound primarily to plasma globulins, a complex which is filtered by the kidneys; if the plasma concentration exceeds the plasma binding capacity, myoglobin begins to appear in the urine; monitoring myoglobin levels in blood (and urine) has been used as a means to detect skeletal or cardiac muscle cell injury SOURCE: ISBN:9780124157590

increased circulating myoglobin level DEF: increased blood level of myoglobin, a low molecular weight oxygen binding heme protein that is normally found exclusively in heart and skeletal muscle cells; in blood, myoglobin is bound primarily to plasma globulins, a complex which is filtered by the kidneys; if the plasma concentration exceeds the plasma binding capacity, myoglobin begins to appear in the urine; myoglobin is rapidly released into the bloodstream after muscle damage, and thus can be a useful biomarker in the early phases of heart or skeletal muscle injury SYN: elevated blood myoglobin level
