just a question....have you installed ghostscript ?

yes i have checked again, there was ghostscript installed.
i think it's not the problem of ghostscript, because the convertion of ppt to
swf
should be ppt -> pdf -> swf. And the step from ppt to pdf failed.
i have also test using the following command:
java -jar
/opt/openmeetings_r2776/webapps/openmeetings/jod/jodconverter-cli-2.2.2.jar
-f pdf /home/walter/new1.ppt
having the errors:

does your red5 service have writing rights on your server ?
are you using some kind of wrapper to start your service ?
secondly to check your installation
1) upload an image and check is its working fine.
2) if you have folder rights for your server, then in your installation
directory
inside you webapp folder there is a folder named "upload" within that you can
find
your converted files (jpeg, pdf, thumbnails, swf) etc, check if what all are
created
to get and idea
and i think it will be better off if you discuss out here
http://groups.google.com/group/openmeetings-user
rather than in this issue list section :)
hope it helps

hi, jyothivasnair,
the openmeetings is installed in /opt, and i run red5 using "sudo red5.sh". By
uploading ppt file, a folder "3" is created in folder 'upload', so i think red5
service does have the writing rights.
i tested again, image(png) and pdf uploading are fine.
btw, i cannot open the site http://groups.google.com/group/openmeetings-user
it is walled in China.

ok..
so what all files were found in your folder "3", did you find the pdf, swf and
images, were they created
now i believe it is some internal error occurring with your jod convertor, can
you
double check your openoffice installation as jod uses that to convert.
secondly you can try and access the UploadHandler.java file inside your source
files
which will surely give you a better idea of the flow of things while uploading
and
debug it
sad to know you cant access the openmeeting group as you can get help from the
Sebastian etc out there, who can surely help you better

hi, jyothivasnair,
There are 2 files [library.xml new1.ppt] created in folder '3'.
and the content of library.xml is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<presentation><originalDocument lastmod="1262840330000"
size="137728">new1.ppt</originalDocument><pdfDocument lastmod="0"
size="0">new1.pdf</pdfDocument><swfDocument lastmod="1262840330000"
size="137728">new1.swf</swfDocument><thumbs/></presentation>
i will look at the UploadHandler.java, hope i can find something useful.
anyway, thank for your rapid help.:)

just to add try uploading different office documents...like odt, xls, doc
if the problem exists check your openoffice installation, and that it is
listening to
port 8100
as you are facing problem over there itself at openoffice setup...best of luck
:)

to jyothivasnair,
have time to test it again, and now it works[Ubuntu 8.04 64bit Server with
openmeetings r2776].
I just add
-----------------------------------------
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
-----------------------------------------
to /etc/apt/source.list
and run
-----------------------------------------
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 247D1CFF
-----------------------------------------
to add apt-key.
and then upgrade ubuntu system:(i have already installed Openoffice 2.4 before)
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
OpenOffice 2.4 then will be replaced by OpenOffice 3.1
after that, i run test:
java -jar
/opt/openmeetings_r2776/webapps/openmeetings/jod/jodconverter-cli-2.2.2.jar
-f pdf ./new1.ppt
and get the sucess output:
Jan 13, 2010 3:03:05 PM
com.artofsolving.jodconverter.openoffice.connection.AbstractOpenOfficeConnection
connect
INFO: connected
Jan 13, 2010 3:03:06 PM
com.artofsolving.jodconverter.openoffice.connection.AbstractOpenOfficeConnection
disposing
INFO: disconnected
So the problem was caused by OpenOffice 2.4 default installed in Ubuntu 8.04.
Hope this may help others.
