Since the driver got shiny new features such as compressed depth (https://github.com/microsoft/Azure_Kinect_ROS_Driver/pull/180) and manual calibration (https://github.com/microsoft/Azure_Kinect_ROS_Driver/pull/200) could you do a new binary bloom release, so these features can be used without compiling from source?
