`xdg-open <folder>` opens folder in VSCode instead of file browser since Ubuntu 24

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 22 to 24. Since then, trying to open a folder in the file explorer from VSCode's integrated terminal using xdg-open /path/to/folder results in another VSCode window opening for the folder.

If I type the same in the system terminal, it works as expected.

Yes and no. For some reason that one opens the folder in VLC media player 🤷🏻‍♂️
