Can you try either 1.0.5b1 or the SVN code, as alot of the code was reworked.
But there may be some seeking issues still.
Build instructions are here:

BTW, yes still some seeking issues. If you click on the seek bar to move to a
position the bar control sometimes does not fix under the mouse cursor but ends
up somewhere else, left or right of the click.

Yes, and that is the problem I fixed this morning.

Now running 1.0.5b2 and pause resume still not working. If you pause with
space, wait some minutes and press space again, it does not resume.

Can you run gnome-mplayer -v from a terminal and see if there is any error
message. You can paste it in here and I will examine if needed. I normally do
this type of activity. I'll watch a video, have to pause to take a call and
resume, so I don't believe I have experienced this issue.

Here is the terminal output on an mkv movie. The pause --resume fail output is
the media state change warning(s) at the end of this output.

BTW, seeking with mouse now works in 1.0.5b2, Thankyou. :)
I previously used the mplayer-gui on fedora with no issues but it seems to have
been dropped in 11.10 ubuntu distros so switched to your front end. I don't
care for vlc for some reason.

I tested it a couple of times, waiting about 10 mins between presses of space
bar and could not duplicate your issue.
You might try changing the ao to the specific device or to pulse if pulseaudio
is running.
aplay -l
will give you a list of devices, and that list should be similar to the drop
down.
I'm using
MPlayer SVN-r34400-4.6.2
Your version is not that old, but you might try upgrading if possible.

Run OS support for SSE check only for runtime CPU detection.
It is pointless to run it otherwise and it causes issues
on OSes where we have not implemented a way to check.

I switched to mplayer2 but that still has the same problem. I'll keep trying
various things. BTW which do you think is the better, the original mplayer or
mplayer2 which claims to have better code and fixes ?

I think mplayer and mplayer2 are pretty similar, there are some features in
mplayer2 (around pause) that appear to be more consistent and gnome-mplayer
should take advantage of them. But for day to day use I have not noticed a huge
difference and I have both on my machine.

Does mplayer by itself have this issue? Can you post a log of mplayer -v
playing a video, pausing it, letting it sit for a few minutes and then resuming
it?
Also this error concerns me a little

OK, looks like the same faults occurs at command line with mplayer2. See
attached file. The resume fail happened on the last pause at the end before I
quit but no extra output compared to a successful pause-resume. So I guess this
bug is elsewhere.
