We need a new promotional Video #153

Jeija commented 10 years ago

Unfortunately, the current promotional YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kmeQj6iW5k) is so horribly out of date (it was actually made before mesecons were first published) that people will rather decide not to install mesecons, because it seems quite limited. We need a new video I would definitely like to feature some of your ideas and projects in this video, so I encourage you to send in your creations as a video (preferably) or as a map (if you're unable to record yourself). Just post a link to it here, in the forum thread or send an email to me. I will collect them all and cut together a short video (collaboratively, if someone decides to join in). You may also just note down your idea for a single scene or the concept of the whole video. A native English speaker who could comment on the video would also be nice, but not necessary.

Your shots should meet the following requirements:

I haven't got any Video clips so far - so this has to be postponed :(

HybridDog commented 10 years ago

You could make a video fairly similar to the old one, just with the new mesecons version. I think this would be better than no new video.

Jeija commented 10 years ago

I agree, but honestly, I don't have much time for that video and I want it to be somewhat creative at least. Some ideas would be very helpful there, I'm not exactly the most creative person when it comes to videos.

HybridDog commented 10 years ago

maybe something like converting a mesecons signal with specific time delays to a digiline signal

webD97 commented 10 years ago

I would prefer multiple short videos, each one about one specific feature/node/function.

webD97 commented 10 years ago

Maybe visiting some servers would bring interesting content as a general showcase video. There are machines, factories, dams which would fit perfectly into such a video!

HybridDog commented 10 years ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWbzGpRVbaU ca. 8:00 Do you mean something like an automatic papyrus farm?

webD97 commented 10 years ago

For example yes. IMO there should be one general video making the people think "OMG WHAT AN AWESOME MOD!! I MUST HAVE THIS!!" and multiple shorter ones demonstrating single features.

Jeija commented 10 years ago

I suggest the following: There is one central video that draws attention. It shows some cool things you can do, but not necessarily all the available nodes. Then, there is a screen where it shows several short clips that you can either click to jump to the section, or you can just wait and the videos are played one after the other. These single videos can be machines, buildings or explanations of single features. All these videos should kind of have the same design and style to them, like the same intro screen. If there are more videos later on, we could also add them to the screen and upload them seperately.

Maybe we should collect videos that already exist with quality that can be used in the project, I'd say these two I published are suitable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgWJ1sLVwRI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo_GT6a4M90

Is anyone amongst you who would like to talk over some explanatory part of the video with a decent microphone and good pronounciation?

C1ffisme commented 9 years ago

I'm going to try to make a video, but I want some background music. I just need something calm, like the music from Supertux used last time.

C1ffisme commented 9 years ago

And please, remember to use a lyricless song. Don't distract people from what I'm saying.

Not sure if it helps but i have a messecons laboratory on FREE PIZZA SERVER demonstrating all the nodes and their conductivity plus few simple machines on demonstarting an easy use in everyday world (of minetest). Wanted to make a video but: the server is too laggy many times, no time and my MIC is not working properly :/ Anyway, it might give you an idea on how to refresh your promo video...that was my first intention ;) ...look for SaKeL's Cloud Castle

C1ffisme commented 8 years ago

Goody! Because I kind of forgot about making the video a long time ago. I may start up again if I really force myself to, though.

Jeija commented 8 years ago

I'm currently rebuilding the mesecons website over at http://centralbank.eu/mesecons/, so any kind of input (pictures, videos, designs etc.) is greatly appreciated! I'd love to have a new intro video, but I just can't afford to spend the time right now.

C1ffisme commented 8 years ago

Ok.

C1ffisme commented 8 years ago

A few suggestions :

Other than that, great work! :+1:

I might be able to give you some of the footage I shot...

I had made a trailer music some time ago, if you think it would be good... https://up1.ca/#K0eRfjisr577c-XNiSZKuQ

CC-BY-SA, just give credits ^^

C1ffisme commented 8 years ago

@ObaniGemini Nice!

It reminds me of the Terraria music.

I made a tutorial on Mesecons/Digilines: https://youtu.be/_s9CVFaw1eI

Its CC-BY-SA 4.0, though I'd be willing to relicense it depending what is needed.

I can also edit and record videos, though my narration is far from top notch XD

Jeija commented 8 years ago

@benrob0329 That video is pretty good, I embedded in on http://mesecons.net/ (you may need to clear your cache to see it, it is among the screenshots). The only problem with it is that it isn't a promotional style video that demonstrates all the cool things mesecons can do using a couple of example projects, but instead a rather comprehensive guide on how to build a password-protected door. Personally, I really like your narration style and don't forget that you have the great advantage of being a native English speaker other than many of us.

Here is a more "showcasey" type video I made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AzX8NfKEwY
