What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Compile / Install 3.01
2. Run on a known image file
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Looking at the output shown in issue 596
(http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/issues/detail?id=596), I would expect
quality similar to that. I ran my version of tesseract on that same file
(3.png) and get poor results comparatively speaking.
His results:

01&name=3-301.txt&token=TQxBEDlu470eVgkBrThDWdvFRU4%3A1333633920487
My results:
http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/issues/attachmentText?id=596&aid=59600090
00&name=PNG-3.01.txt&token=h8I8J07Iw5bvzKAnOGXLcZd-_dY%3A1333633920488
As you can see there is a big difference in quality!
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I have tried with both 3.00 and 3.01 (3.01 is a bit better). OS is CentOS 5.4.
I have built Leptonica 1.68. Attached is some additional version info
(tesseract-3.01-ldd.txt).
Please provide any additional information below.
I have also added my comments to issue 596 as it seemed potentially relevant at
the time.
My belief is that I have made some kind of 'schoolboy' error - can someone
please guide me on what it is?
Thanks.
