Also forgot mention I'm using an American Audio VMS4.1 as my midi controller.

Do the effect works if you try to use them from Skin? Which skin are you using? Be sure to use a 2.0 skin (without resolution suffix).

Effects need better defaults, as discussed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1296089 Or we`ll see more reports like this one.
LateNight as default skin not having a SuperKnob control is not helping either.

Hey all,
Thanks for the quick response -- sorry was only able to get to a computer now.
All I see are 3 skins Deere, LateNight, and Shade. I was using Deere at the time. I'm guessing it's a 2.0 skin as it's resizable and looks really polished.
Yes I did try using the effects directly with my mouse as well as my MIDI controller. Though it appears the MIDI mappings are ok as I was able to control the parameter knob (aka super) and the wet/dry mix knob.
On the effect panel, I had enabled the power button, I was moving the super and mix knobs and switching through effects. Only reverb seemed to work.
Do you guys have any sort of tool for a stack trace or something that can help you debug this or do you think it's a skin issue still? So stoked for the filter effect alone :)
Thanks!

I also forgot to add I tried putting it on both the master channel and the deck-specific channel (i.e. CH1, CH2) as well -- no luck there. I am experienced with effects processors on mixers and other software -- I'm pretty sure I'm using things correctly. Please correct me if I'm doing something wrong.
And just to be clear, the reverb effect is working great and both the super and mix knob are doing there job.

Oh sorry guys I messed up. I tried switching from Deere to LateNight -- and now I see more complete effects controls plus they all work! Filter, flanger, reverb, and bitcrusher are working great! Can't seem to get echo to work, but that's ok...just happy to get the others!
I love the Deere skin -- will it have working effects later on and just isn't complete right now?
I guess this issue can be closed -- thanks guys!

I am glad you could help yourselves.
If you have ideas to improve the situation for new users, feel free to write new bugs, one for each idea. Thank you.

If effects aren't working in Deere that's definitely a problem -- @mas644 can you take a screenshot of how Deere looks while you're trying to configure effects, and can you attach a copy of your mixxx log?

Oops, forgot to attach late night picture

on the left side of the effects for Deere there is a button with up-and-down arrowheads, click that.

omg I'm such an idiot -- thank you!
i didn't make the connection between those arrows and the expand/close feature -- was just sort of mentally ignoring them. it's obvious now after clicking on one.
sorry guys to waste your time!

No problem. We should probably create wiki pages for each skin because they are so complicated now (and not consistent with each other)

During my testing of both Mixxx 2 RC1 and its predecessor Mixxx 1.12 Beta, I have had problems with the effects chains where none of them work. The only effect that appears to work is Reverb.
These do not work: Filter Flanger Echo Bitcrusher
System: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Linux 3.16 stock (NOT low-latency or real time) -- using ALSA Intel i5 NUC (Haswell), 8GB RAM, dual core 1.5 GHz Mixxx was installed from PPA Intel HD Graphics 5000 Intel HD Audio
Other than that it's been pretty amazing -- you guys did a fantastic job, looks gorgeous! Love the new key matching feature, out of this world!
