I changed the config handling and cleaned up the folder structure.

Nice, that's more straight forward than I expected! I'd really appreciate if you could make a few small changes:

Undo the array() to [] changes so we can keep this change focused on the upgrade only.
Undo the truncate empty lines changes.
Rebase and squash your commits.
