Layout engine info like 'trident', 'webkit' could be very useful .

This would be interesting, but you can already retrieve this info with mootools
(probably other javascript frameworks also have this capability). Since this 
info
would mostly be used to solve presentation issues, doing this in javascript 
seems a
better option to me.

Sure, you're right. Javascript may also be a more accurate solution ( people 
could send 
any UA string programmatically to server ).
