sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor therapy synonym: SGLT2 inhibitor therapy def: Treatment with any agent that inhibits sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 renal reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, and thereby increases urinary glucose excretion. The SGLT2 inhibitor class includes canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin. SGLT2 inhibitors may be used to treat type 2 diabetes. Additionally, empagliflozin was shown to treat GSD-Ib and G6PC3 deficiency by decreasing serum and neutrophil 1,5-anhydroglucitol-6-phosphate (1,5AG6P) concentrations (PMID:32294159).
