Cabbage Connector: Can't send text with question mark

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open SMSdroid
2. Ensure that the default connector is set to "Cabbabge"
3. Select a previous message
4. Type a response that includes the "?" character and click to send it.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Receive the message "failed to send SMS" 

What version of the product are you using? "Last" is not appropriate. Make
sure you tell at least which app you are using. On what operating system?
SMSdroid v1.6.4
WebSMS v4.9.1
Cabbage Connector 1.5
Android 4.4.2

Please provide any additional information below.
1. If you change the provider to "SMS" then the message gets sent ok.  I guess 
that this means that the issue is with Cabbage but I'm not sure.

google code will go out of service in a few days(?).

This is a problem with Cabbage Gateway. Unfortunately, Cabbage Gateway is no 
longer maintained. Which means that it is falling apart and no-one is fixing 
it. And I have no access to this server to fix it.
