Maybe a good security measure would be to make a backup of the target preference file before performing a write, so that should the preference file get trashed and FileMaker not be openable, the old preference file could be restored.
Would this need some kind of non-FileMaker script (AppleScript / Batch-Script)
either to reinstate the settings file directly
or to delete the broken settings file
and fmSetupAssistant could reinstate the backup file itself?
