Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. RT-n56U doesnt currently have a daylight savings adjustment

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Would be good to have daylight savings adjustment

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

1.0.1.8d-p3

Hello,

I'm sorry, what do you mean by 'daylight savings adjustment'?

For me in Canada (Montreal)GMT-5 . Daylight Saving Time began on March-11-12 at
2:00AM. The clock went forward 1 hour at that time.

Some more infos...

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/rules/usa/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time

RT-N56U Official firmware or yours, doesn't support this automatically like the
linksys router or event custom firmware like dd-wrt / tomato.

No problem. You're welcome! But if i think about it, it's already implemented
beause N56U update the time over ntp server and this server provide
automatically the "summer/winter" time change. Please correct if i am wrong!

Its not implemented because the time of the router didnt changed on sunday. But
it changed on my linksys router.

Maybe the router could not connect to ntp server properly. Will see.

On my side from the log, it does connect : ntp client: time is synchronized to
pool.ntp.org

Just not adjusting for summer / winter time.

Yes I understand, thank you.
I'm not sure, but I suspect it was specially hard coded for Russia in this
firmware )
You can try to change time zone manually.

Go to :
http://my.router/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp

nvram set time_zone=GMT-5
nvram commit

I think you got this wrong.
I can change the time zone manually via the standard web page.
It is correctly set to GMT-5. But since last sunday, (March-11-12 at 2:00AM)
The clock went forward 1 hour at that time.
So I *virtually* become (GMT-4) if you prefer
Like other router, there should be an option(tick box) to automatically push 1
hour.
Like I said, its not even a feature supported yet on the official asus firmware.

As a work around for now, I have to change my time zone in the router to GMT-4

Btw your command line didnt work correctly. It set my router to GMT-12 lol.

We need a configuration similar to dd-wrt.
See attachment

Yes, I've understood you correctly I think. You know, there should be some
daemon like cron, which can change it automatically. (with correct values of
timezones in web GUI)) But now, there is no such application in firmware. Maybe
later...

PS: You are right, sorry. I've written you incorrect value of timezone for
command line. There are no GMT value in nvram at all..

No problem, Its just a suggestion for future improvement :)

Yeah would be great to see that implemented! Maybe cron is not the easy way to
get correct time for the average skilled poeple or if u not need cron for other
jobs.

Seem its implemented on 8e-p1 even if not mentioned in change log.
Could be a official Asus fix too tho..

Anyway I don`t have the issue anymore so big thanks.

I noticed that when I use MANUAL IP settings from N56U in AP mode and make the
Modem+Router the DNS it doesnt connect with NTP server.

When I use DHCP the time uploads but with manual IP it does not.
