A NEAR token for Reddit Subs | Bounty: up to $100k in NEAR #9

Description

Reddit recently launched their project to experiment on 2 subreddits with launching their own subreddit tokens (https://decrypt.co/28874/why-reddit-is-bringing-crypto-to-two-million-people) in r/CryptoCurrency and r/FortNiteBR. They've launched the tokens and natively integrated the "vault" into the user flows around their app. They are doing this to boost engagement and experiment with empowering user communities to develop their own independent identities.

They chose to use ERC 20s on Ethereum's TestNet because of how well established it is. Unfortunately, this is also limited by many of the issues which Limit Ethereum 1.0 today -- speed, usability, cost and flexibility being some of the key ones. Let's show them what can be done with a next-generation platform!

Your mission is to build a token on NEAR for a subreddit with >25k users, ideally one where people like to tinker and play (a developer focus or a minecraft-style gaming focus). It could also be a learning community like FreeCodeCamp.

The disadvantage you have is to not be part of the native "vault" flows on the Reddit app so it will not feel "native" to users. The advantage you have is that NEAR is much easier to tinker with and much more performant so, when you get people playing with it, it is much more likely to create real engagement and take off when it has a foothold.

Bounty

Up to $100k of NEAR This bounty can be claimed by up to 2 different people on 2 different qualifying subreddits. The "officially supported by Reddit" bonus can only be claimed once.

This will be human-verified to prevent sybil attacks on this bounty. Bonus: $5,000 of NEAR if the subreddit targeted has >100k subscribers. Bonus: $20,000 of NEAR if the number of accounts exceeds 10,000 Bonus: $20,000 of NEAR if the number of accounts exceeds 100,000 Bonus: $20,000 of NEAR if the token becomes supported by Reddit's native app flows, similar to the ERC 20s.

Update: See https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/i1b4b3/nears_submission_to_reddits_scaling_bakeoff/ for a demo and code samples of building a system that operates with Reddit. It's not exactly the same but may help.

@eriktrautman let me understand , The objective of this bountie is : Create a Token on Near Ecosystem, use this token with a community on Reddit, in a subreddit, that you can create a game, or some interaction or application with this group, for this people use token and interact with near ecosystem. (using that created token) Reach 1000 users on Reddit with some engaje sending some tokens to they play , use, etc the bountie will be done ?

the bounty is quite out of date by now (and pricing was changed) but the idea is still the same -- launch a NEAR-based community token which gets real, ongoing usage by a subreddit. So just building a game that a subreddit gets excited by isn't enough. It needs to be a token which is used by the subreddit as part of its regular activities (there are many types of tokens that might be used, from a fungible token ICO-style to a series of NFTs which represent membership privileges). That's the spirit of this.

@eriktrautman but still active ? I am a follow of near protocol, and developer, i already invested in near ICO also.

About the uses of this token, the member priveleges i think is a good idea, but i can do that for another forum , as example bitcointalk.org, that more relevant to crypto world than reddit , no ?

eriktrautman commented 3 years ago

It’s active but ok not applies to Reddit because helping one subreddit launch a successful token will help many more.

@eriktrautman - Do you have an updated price for this bounty? I'm asking so I can find the right person / people to complete it.

@luizfelipetx, are you still interested in completing it?

luizfelipetx commented 3 years ago

@cameron-NEAR Yes man!!!

cameron-NEAR commented 3 years ago

Amazing to hear! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions :)

cameron-NEAR commented 3 years ago

Hey @luizfelipetx - how is development coming along? Do you have an idea of when you might have an MVP ready?

I am also interested in the progress of this. As far as I understand, there no any example of custom social NEP21 token built on NEAR?

Not that I've seen. This is still a huge opportunity and the tooling has gotten substantially better in the last year so someone should really get out there and start working with subreddit leaders to tokenize their communities.

If someone builds a product out of this which is attractive to tokenize web2 communities in interesting, creative and ultimately engaging ways, I can almost guarantee it'll be fund-able and has a massive TAM.

What's the status of this bounty? I'm interested if no one is working on it.
