Custom Channel via guild-info #250

Background:

• We use EPGP, we award "standby EP" to people who are on-line but not in
raid.
• We do not have any alts in the raiding guild, we have a separate "alts
guild".
• Therefore, EPGP announcements will use the "Custom Channel" feature - so
people in the alt-
guild can see DKP announcements
• This will be especially important once the automatic "whisper for standby"
feature goes in.
• It will be CRITICAL if/when the "popup dialogue for standby" goes into the
EPGP client - the
client will need to be in the right channel.

Right now, I will have to get everyone to manually join the correct channel,
and if they drop out
of the channel, they won't auto-rejoin. Even with the "Do it or no standby EP"
stick, this is going
to be a PITA.

SOLUTION

-EPGP-
@CUSTOM_CHANNEL:<channel_name>
-EPGP

The custom channel is guild-wide - I can't think of a reason for it to be
private or secret. It's the
same as decay or min_GP - the system doesn't work right if diff people use diff
settings.

The EPGP mod should auto-join that channel, if it is set.

How can you drop out of a channel? I never drop out of channels unless I leave
them.

"How can you drop out of a channel? I never drop out of channels unless I leave
them."

I don't know why it happens, but it's moderately frequent for me and several
other people in-guild. We use a lot
of custom channels (AJtank, AJhealer, etc), and people fall out of them
somehow. Client crash, perhaps?

Regardless, it doesn;t seem to make much sense for custom channel to be
different on different clients. It's not
that much different to Decay or BaseGP

It does happen occasionally, don't know if its caused by addons, but sometimes
I need
to rejoin some of our channels when I log on.

The reason I thinks its a good idea is that is saves having to ask people to
join the
EPGP channel, they get put in automatically when they log, again this depends
on the
guild members. People should of course re-join the EPGP channel themselves if
they
drop out.

Setting custom channel's name in guild's info won't help to non-guild members
unless
it is set also in all members' guilds. If your situation is two small guilds
raiding
together, it is ok. It won't work if your guild raids with only a few friends
from
another guild(s).

I think this setting should be something which master looter sets up at the
beginning
(actually the chan name might be taken from Guild Info) and master looter's
addon
tells to other members' addons what is the channel name to join.

Along with issue 319, the same channel could be used to sync standby lists...
with
an option to, of course, filter out seeing control messages in the chat window
unless needing to debug.
