knowledge sharing approach: DCAT/DCAT-AP #21

Open HendrikBorgelt opened 1 month ago

HendrikBorgelt commented 1 month ago

This issue is associated with the charter epic #4.

What cross-domain knowledge sharing approach does this issue address?

DCAT & DCAT-AP --> An overview was given in meeting

What further steps are needed to be taken or discussed by/in our WG regarding this issue?

As an example of how to extend DCAT-AP was given in the presentation of the respective meeting, discussions around the exact extension and on the adoption by multiple NFDI Consortia must follow.

  1. [ ] Discussions on how to extend and how to use the extension of DCAT-AP for NFDI cross-domain knowledge sharing
    • If somebody is interested in having a more in-depth discussion, please respond with a comment on this issue or send an email to hendrik.borgelt@tu-dortmund.de. A meeting date will then be discussed with all those who responded in the next two weeks.
  2. [ ] Create a list of Consortia that want to contribute and possibly adopt a knowledge-sharing approach based on DCAT/DCAT-AP

@joshmoore, @hgoerzig, @magelm, @StroemPhi I already added you to my list of interested people. Since I don't have your mailing address of all of you, I would appreciate it if you could either post it in this comment or write me a short email to hendrik.borgelt@tu-dortmund.de

In the 8th of May meeting we also agreed that hearing from the CDIF folks about their recommendations on using DCAT/-AP will be a necessary input for us. Which will hopefully happen this June. So this issue is related to #14

I suggest that in preparation, it makes sense to collect all mapping use cases as well as already available mappings, and crosswalks to/from DCAT/-AP in this repo (maybe in a dedicated subfolder of mapping). E.g. I put the official DCAT-Schema.org mapping from W3C already here: https://github.com/nfdi-de/section-metadata-wg-onto/blob/main/mapping/dcat-schema.ttl.

I think that it would be great to have example scripts (e.g. Jupyter notebooks) that use these collected mappings to solve common use cases, e.g. converting schema.org- or Datacite-based metadata of a dataset into a DCAT-AP validated RDF graph.
