What did the Exception Report say (if this was on Windows)? Include Fault
Executable Name and Offset.
creating effect compiler...failed
OS_tool: failed to create effect compiler

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Execute "os_tool compile-shader-postprocess postprocess\shaders"
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
creating effect compiler...failed
OS_tool: failed to create effect compiler

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
open sauce version 3.0 on windows 7 64-bit

Please provide any additional information below.
HEK and OS are installed on D drive. (My another PC with HEK and OS installed
on C drive can successfully execute compile-shader-postprocess command)

Does this occur when you attempt to compile the my_tint.fx shader? What other
details are printed to the console?

This error occurs when I attempt to compile any fx file including those example
files. This was the only error message that displayed on my console.

p.s Do I need DirectX SDK installed? If so, which version do I need?

You don't need the SDK, no. I'm not sure why that function would fail without
any errors being shown. Could you check the OS_Settings.Editor.xml that should
be along side os_tool and make sure the root directory is valid?

Sorry for late reply.
The attachment is the actual error message which I got. Should os_tool output
more error message than this?
And yes, the root path in OS_Settings.Editor.xml is valid. (D:\Program Files
(x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\)

Have you attempted this again on the current OS build (3.0.1)? It should now
output more information when the effect compiler creation fails.

With no new complaints or anything, I'm just going to close this.
