Hi Adam,

This file was copied directly from the 2018 Munich workshop folder on Google drive. You can find all the files there. I believe you have access to that folder. The sub-folder SNA has a folder Sargonletters which has multiple sub-folders with the raw JSON zip file, the csv, etc. For my project, I will probably go with the other notebook that works from the glossary (not from the editions).

I have a similar query as @admndrsn. When trying to run make_edge_node_list, I get error message that the file raw/sargonletters.csv cannot be found. In your reply you mention that this csv is accessible via Google drive. Could you please point me to where I can find this file or how to generate it from the ORACC zip/JSON files?

Dear Mark,

Nice to hear from you! The notebook you've tried was originally not written for compass, but for another project. I have re-written a few cells to make it more self-contained. There are a few things you should know. First, there are other ways (more efficient ones) of identifying PNs that appear in the same letter, namely by utilizing the glossaries that are part of the same JSON zip file. Second, in order to run this you need to get the entire compass repository (or at least the directory called 'utils'). I am currently working on code to isolate PN in a set of Ur III documents, assign each PN a role and then create a directed network. This is work in progress, but if you're interested in exploring it you are very welcome. It is in the dev branch of compass in 4_Sargons_Pen_Pals and the file is called Treasure_Shoes.ipynb. Eventually, chapter 4 will be renamed and will be structured around that archive (still about networks, though) - so the Sargon stuff is on its way out.

Ik ben gepromoveerd in theoretische natuurkunde aan de universiteit van Utrecht en daarna ben ik kort werkzaam geweest voor Philips in hun afdeling voor medische image processing. In dat werk en vooral daarna in mijn werk in de financiele sector heb ik ervaring opgedaan met verschillende data science en met name deep learning technieken. Ik ben altrijd geinteresserd geweest in archaeology en met name spijkerschrift zo vandaar mijn interesse om te zien hoe data science technieken daar kunnen worden toegepast.
