@jonafato Hi, thank you for your contribution. I will look into this as soon as I resolved the current problem with building flit>=2.0. This is due to the tests not passing regardless of your change.

As a heads up: You change looks good, but it would be nice to have a integration test for building a package with Python 3.8.
