The package requires a little bit of house keeping - it hasn't been used in a little while. Here are some things that should be fixed.

[x] use github actions
[x] remove travis/appveyor
[ ] update pkgdown
[x] general code review to clean up old patterns
[x] update README installation instructions
[x] goodpractice checks
[x] make sure checks run in a reasonable time
[x] make sure all checks pass
