running Ubuntu 22.10 >>> kubuntu/kde plasma steps to reproduce -- apt install xfce4 xfce4-goodies tightvncserver novnc websockify python3-numpy build-essential net-tools curl git software-properties-common -y

reboot shows black screen and active mouse

I am simply attempting to use noVNC on baremetal intelx86 and ubuntu thanks so much hubbert@hubbertsmith.com

I'm afraid setting up a VNC server requires a few more steps than just installing those packages. I suggest finding a tutorial for getting everything up and running. Unfortunately, I don't have anything offhand for you.
