Test review: remove junit #86

This PR removes the usage of junit

Check that travis is green

Diff certainly looks plausible. Want to try removing junit from build.gradle then too? Also, do we expect the tests to pass okay? (gradle test runs only five classes for me and I'm not sure what to give the --tests parameter to run many of these and our testing docs still reference "components/" stuff.)

I have not looked at running the other tests yet. --tests option is to run some specific tests. This is to be used in combination with gradle test.
