License does not follow the Open Source Definition #53

According to the Open Source Definition:

  1. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor The license must not restrict anyone from making use of the program in a specific field of endeavor. For example, it may not restrict the program from being used in a business, or from being used for genetic research.

However, the README includes the following statement:

Original License When using software provided by the Open Video Game Library with modifications for research purposes, you must disclose the software version and its source code, and cite the paper described in the README file included with the software you are using.

Therefore, I think this license does not follow the open source definition. Rules for research are to be determined among the researcher community (e.g. learned society), and the OSS license must not restrict use even if the user has done something that violates research ethics.

In my opinion, in order to conform to the OSS definition, it would be better to remove the Original License section from the license and only encourage proper citation in the Citation section.

@vbkaisetsu Thanks for pointing out the license. As you say, the current terms of use need to be changed as they deviate from the definition of OSS, and I will remove the Original License section in order to claim it as OSS and to encourage more people to use it.
