Dealing with Safety #11

Closed thill-odi closed 5 years ago

thill-odi commented 5 years ago

One concern that emerged with clarity at the Routes workshop was safety. The precise nature of these concerns varies widely, ranging from personal physical security from assailants (particularly in urban areas) to concerns with visibility, weather conditions, temperature, etc. (typically more rural issues).

The proposal here is to create a Routes-specific Safety model, with the following attributes:

safetyNote - a freetext description of safety concerns isMaintained - a Boolean indication of whether the Route is actively maintained or monitored isMaintainedBy - in the event that isMaintained is True, this attribute describes the Person or Organisation performing this maintenance furtherSafetyInformationURL - a URL giving further safety information (e.g. https://vscg.org/guiding-principles/risk-control) userSafetyRating - a numeric field indicating user assessments of safety userSafetyReview - a text field for user safety assessments.

Noted from call 17 July: this was discussed at the workshop and is possibly better described in terms of 'risk' than as 'safety'.

Noted from call 17 July: need to be able to capture 'risk modifiers', the points or physical features that ameliorate the risk.

Noted from call 17 July: a tag vocabulary of risks and their modifiers would be extremely helpful here - partly to be useful to seed a controlled vocabulary, but also potentially to populate webforms and help data publishers here. To brainstorm on the next call.

Okay, closing this one in the sense that the model itself is now well-defined. How exactly to populate it and with what values is a separate question.
