• [x] I think the start page should say clearly who this page is for.

In my eyes, this page is not for individuals who would like to know about OSM or start contributing, it is for organisations who have some bigger plan. It should be made clear that what you are looking at here is not the "main OpenStreetMap info page", because otherwise we'll hear tons of demands what else needs to be on there.

"Who is OpenStreetMap" :

• [x] "Everyone who uses OpenStreetMap in some way (is) part of the community" - violent disagreement here. The community are those who make OpenStreetMap, not those who (only) use OSM in some way. You can certainly use OSM intensively and thus - by way of feedback or introducing others to OSM - become one of the makers, but certainly not "everyone who uses OSM" is part of the community. If we wanted to introduce such inflationary use of the term "community" we'd have to start talking of the "mapper community" versus the "user community".

• [x] Contributors: "Many of these are volunteers" -> "The overwhelming majority of these are volunteers"

• [x] "Local and Regional Communities" - highlight of Africa and Asia is misleading. the US have been organizing their own conference for much longer.

"Why use OpenStretMap" :

• [x] Global Reach - "although there is no standardization" - this can go; while tags are not standardized, the unified schema we have means we're more standardized than if you were to try and mix Open Data from Australia and Chile. A detailed discussion on why tagging can be different in different regions would lead too far here.

• [x] "Local Knowledge" - The result is a map made by local experts (not "made up of")

"How to give back"

• [x] needs link to something that explains they cannot just import their shit.

• [x] "What other ways can we contribute" - should not say contact advisory board.

"What is the history of OSM"

• [x] I'm not a fan of Steve Coast but I think that it would be the right thing to mention him as the founder instead of writing "founded by map enthusiasts".

"What is the OSM Foundation"

• [x] I would like to have a clear statement about "support not control", for example open the page with: "OpenStreetMap is not a closely governed or managed project; grassroots activities are the core of the movement, and individuals participating in OpenStreetMap enjoy great freedom. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports OpenStreetMap and provides the necessary orgnaizationial backbone, without aiming to control the project or steer it in any particular direction."

• [ ] I am uncomfortable with the random selection and with the fact that this page sounds like we're not even there for personal use.

• [x] "OSM currently runs an extremely lean operation.", let's drop the "currently", it sounds as if we wanted to change.

"How Good is OSM data"

• [x] I don't like the connection between open data and "potentially higher level of data quality" even if it is already cautiously worded. Perhaps we can say: "In some regions, open government data is also available to mappers for improving OSM." or so.

"Organized Editing"

• [x] there's a conflict here between the Advisory Board who have their own suggestions for a policy, and the official policy being created by the DWG. This page describes the Advisory Board's version and should not be there at all; instead there should be a page that explains that organized editing is subject to some guidelines, just as data imports are, and a link to the guidelines, nothing more.

"We're planning a humanitarian campaign"

• [x] needs words of caution about introducing tons of newbies and underestimating the training effort. "Be aware that you are not operating on a blank slate..."

Idea of adding a section on our expectations of local chapters

• [ ] unsure if this is not scope creep. Remember we're writing a document for organisations new to OSM. These are not the target group for founding local chapters. If anything, the welcome mat should have a short sentence like: "Once the community in a country has grown to the point where having a formal regional organisation is beneficial, they can set up a local chapter" or something like that?

@woodpeck addressed most of your comments. take a look and see if we're in a better place.

Remaining is work on the Who uses OpenStreetMap page, and I do like the idea of setting expectations for local chapters, even if implicitly. Could imagine helpful to point a prospective local chapter there.
