You should not disable apps before upgrade #4455

It was never required. If you disbale them, their upgrade procedures will not be executed.

Core will tell you to disable some apps before running the upgrade, if they are not compatible with the new version.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't remember who said that I needed to disable them.
