WIP: Enable localization #73

Closed phw closed 6 years ago

phw commented 7 years ago

This is an attempt to fully localize NaSC. The basics where already present in the app and the build system, it just needed wiring up.

Please don't merge yet, this is work in progress :)

Main issue is that while it is building and installing the translation files, it is not picking up the translations yet. Not sure what I miss here, but will keep debugging.

It also might break some things, needs proper testing.

If this works we maybe can also set this up on https://hosted.weblate.org/ for easy translation.

The problem is that most descriptions and stuff come from qalculate directly and this is not really translated. Only in fr, sv, nl and some chinese but also not complete. So the app would be still only a tiny bit localized. I prefer just english in this case.

Ok, got it, it's working now. also found out what DATADIR is about, that's used in Granite.Application only for determining localization path.

You get a partial translated app anyway. If you currently run it with e.g. the French locale they descriptions from qalculate will be in French, the rest in English. System dialogs like the file chooser will show the user's locale for most texts, too. That libqalculate is not fully translated is IMHO no good reason to not show the main UI in the user's chosen language :)
