Unable to create a child site #18

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. manually copied files and dababase after creating a child
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In child site, when I access WOrking Copy, it shows master instead of child
and also the "Differences" icon is missing.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Joomla 1.5.4

Please provide any additional information below.
I was able to do it on another site that is using Joomla 1.5.8, not sure
what I can do to fix this.

I am using 1.5.15 Stable and am having the same problem. In case I did things
out of
order, here is the steps I took.

Installed Working Copy on main site.

Manually copied files to /test folder

Manually exported Joomla database from main site.

Manually created new database.

Manually imported Joomla database into new database.

Entered /test/administrator Joomla site and changed it to use new database and
/test/temp and /test/logs folders.

Made sure /test Joomla site was functioning.

Created child in WCP with all of the correct database settings and correct path
to
/test, choose Manual copy for both database and files.

Everything checked out and WCP said the child was created.

Went to /test Joomla administrator page and opened WCP.

WCP said [Master] and does not show the "Differences" button.

Hope this helps. I love the "Idea" of your program and can't wait to actually
use
it!

Hi,

Manually copying database is not a good idea unless you know what you do, since
the
master db and child db differ from each other little bit. However you can
select to
not copy some big tables if you have.

Regards,

Edvard

Wouldn't it be better if you listed the changes that need to be made in the
documentation? How am I suppose to know what I'm doing when it's undocumented?
 Unless
it is documented and I just haven't been able to find it. In which case I'm
sorry and
would be happy if you could point me to the documentation.

Well, there is some documentation, if you click help you will find it. I accept
that
not all the tricks are documented. However this component is designed for
advanced
users, I hope that I can make it better, so everybody can use it.

I read the documentation in the help but didn't see anything about any
differences in
the databases. I do feel that I am an advanced user since I am an IT
professional,
and work with both databases and programming on a daily basis. The differences
in the
two databases would be specific to your software so there wouldn't be any way
for me
to know those changes without seeing them first hand or having documentation.
Maybe
i'm just not understanding, but it seems to me that when you do the database
copy you
are adding some record in the new database that your program is triggering off
of.
That record would be nice to have documented since your software is original
and no
amount of expertise would give me that information unless I went line by line
through
the code. In future I will allow your software to do the database copy for me,
but I
still suggest more thorough documentation.
