PS. Excluding named property list resources means that these property lists can never have XMP metadata streams or associated files (since these need indirect references which are prohibited in content streams).
PDF TWG - rejig para below NOTE 1 in 14.8.2.2.2 as follows (an informative NOTE plus last sentence as normative text):
NOTE 2: For artifacts defined using the marked-content sequence method, the form indicated in EXAMPLE 1 is used to identify a generic artifact; the form indicated in EXAMPLE 2 is used for those artifacts that have an associated property list.
"Table 363 — Property list entries for artifacts" shows the properties that may be included in the property list.
The text in 14.8.2.2.2 Specification of Artifacts states "...; the form indicated in EXAMPLE 2 shall be used for those artifacts that have an associated property list." (not the "shall"!) where EXAMPLE 2 is:
As stated this does NOT allow the use of a named property list resource (i.e. a dictionary is in the Properties sub-dictionary of the content streams Resources) - is this correct, as It overrides what 14.6.2 Property lists permits?
I think it should be reworded to allow either form of property lists - inline or via a named resource.
