Fancy images for metadata #86

Use logos and images instead of the standard text at the bottom of the screen.

petersem commented 3 years ago

I've looked at this about 10 times now, and no closer to making it happen. I'm not great at making icons, and have not found anything suitable (and scaleable) online.

Images vary for different countries too. Eg ratings.

The other aspect is that some posters already have this info, and I can't dynamically discern these.

So I'm going to put a call out to anyone that can create a set of vector scaleable icons. If I get no responses after a while, then I'll be closing this issue unresolved.

Icons needed (Not images) are: -1080p -4K -SD -4K HDR -ATMOS -3D -STEREO -DTS -DOLBY -SURROUND 5.1 -SURROUND 7.1 -ULTRAHD

They need a similar style, but also be distinct. Use font-awesome as guide for what I need.

@petersem I'll look into this for ya. Thanks for the awesome project!

KingIzzymon commented 1 year ago

Actually would this work for you? https://sickboat.com/products/design-icons-graphic-design-elements-pack

NightHawkATL commented 1 year ago

I am pretty good with photoshop/gimp. I can create some icons for you, I just need to know specs on what you would like. I'd like to contribute to help make this even better for future releases.

KingIzzymon commented 1 year ago

@petersem hey Matt, what do you think?

petersem commented 4 months ago

@KingIzzymon sorry mate, I'm not sure how I missed this message. Yes, those icons for the pack look pretty nice. Big question is if they would scale ok.

KingIzzymon commented 4 months ago

@petersem only one way to find out!

Shall I purchase it and create a PR with the images and license info?

Or @NightHawkATL are you still available to create a few samples? And any skill with vector art? Ideally an SVG file would be best so it scales perfectly to any display, but at minimum I think we'd want 1080p resolution worthy images since I wouldn't expect someone to use a 4k TV as a poster

petersem commented 4 months ago

@KingIzzymon they are nice, however the scaling and available real estate for them, is my what I'm considering. Some of those logos are pretty wide. I'm happy to try them out, but don't want you to waste your money either, just in case it's not viable.

KingIzzymon commented 4 months ago

@petersem I'm more than happy to donate and find out. I'm also fairly good at image editing.

Do you happen to have the dimensions of the available space?

It auto-scales in the css. Anywhere from a small phone, to a big TV. It's a curse and a benefit. It limits customisation a bit, but the users don't have to worry about manually putting in pixel sizes, like in other apps. This is one thing that I really want to keep posterr adhering to.

KingIzzymon commented 4 months ago

Gotcha. Well I should have some time Friday to work on this and I'll submit a PR with the new assets for you to review

One other option is to use something like Plex Meta Manager to add information to the posters in plex. These would then display in Posterr. I am looking at another request which would give an option to hide all the metadata at the bottom of the now showing and on-demand slides.

The PMM idea would be a neat feature but personally I don't like it because it makes my Plex library feel cluttered when scrolling thru movies and that excludes Jellyfin server users...

I agree. I like my posters without clutter on them

petersem commented 4 months ago

@KingIzzymon did you end up getting the images pack? If so, I'd be interested to try and see if I can fit them into posterr

KingIzzymon commented 4 months ago

I'm waiting to hear back from them if donating a pack to an open source project would break their license agreement. I don't think it would according to their FAQ (https://sickboat.com/pages/faq) since it says you can use it for non-profit projects and blogs (where someone could also download the images). But then it also says "you may not redistribute or give the digital content to anyone".

I also have an email from the Director of the company I purchased the images from giving us confirmation to use the images in this project.

That's brilliant. I'll have a proper look tomorrow (midnight here). Fingers crossed that I can implement these pretty easy. They dont all seem to be specially American either. 👍

Great stuff

Will get on it soon. Just been caught up building a big discord site for someone.

KingIzzymon commented 3 months ago

I get that you've been pretty busy, but could you at least accept the PR to bring the images into the project? It's been over a month now since I bought them...

Then I could start looking to see if I can implement them myself to save you time

KingIzzymon commented 2 months ago

@petersem it's been a bit over 2 months now... Any chance you could at least approve the PR?

This request van be a must have for poster, actually using a docker image of poster and really appreciate the accuracy, but my only complain on it was the data found on the bottom of the screen, some of them have no really interest and some other who are really usefull (like resolution, audio...) wasn't really readable. Using image for this data and have the ability to disable some other was a really killer feature for poster.
