check now: "port listener " not starting on windows server #251

hello i have a windows server 2016 and clicking the "check now" button starts with "downloading ports listener" (i see a small animation) then the animation stops and nothing happens at all, like if the button has not been clicked.

Any idea ?

Did you configure windows firewall and port forwarding? If the same error occurs even after clicking 'Check Now', delete the Stellar-dumy Container and try again.

softlion commented 2 years ago

It looks like it is unable to download the port checker.

It's like pi is unable to use docker

that's brave to try it on Windows Server - between Docker EE and OneGet most give up -- I don't know of anyone who has ever got it working properly on windows server - a few have tried and posted in issues here and failed.

As you've already noticed, the listener (stellar-dummy) container is not being pulled down to your docker installation. If hitting the "check now" button does not trigger the download, then you're right the node is unable to use the docker installation available on the server.

Maybe try it on Windows 10 box instead --- you don't need a server class machine, since it is not a proof of work cryptocurrency.

Windows Server 2019 might offer WSL2 (the Linux Subsystem). You must ensure that docker desktop is running at the windows server and I think a lot of security settings need to be open for this. Good luck. I suggest to close this issue. It's not planned to host PI nodes on servers. It's prefered to host them on Pioneer PC's. thx.

hi, please i am using my phone hot sport to connect to my system, so in this case im unable to do the port forwarding. please can i do about this? help thanks.

Unless you never or never take your phone to go out then you never have a consistent connection for the pc and it will not be a reliable server which pi network may never pick up as available. But if the ports listener fails to download and run, then I'm not sure there's any phone apps that can act as the router for you. Basically the phone is an endpoint, not a router - the service provider controls the router basically.

FWIW, I never update docker after having some problems. I went back to 4.12 and all has been stable - most of the time.
