@pjdohertygis - we do have plans to allow the default map to be specified as an organization setting, just like the autosend interval setting.
This would mean that the offline map would get downloaded after the user signs in. This is the part that needs consideration. Do we just do this in the background? Do we prompt the user to start the download and ask them to wait for it? or Do we prompt the user to start the download and then do it in the background (providing progress info).
We have not started designs on this, so please share any thoughts that you have.
The new ability to cache offline areas by map extent is GREAT! We will still need to train users to open the map before leaving connectivity.
Now the main challenge we need to overcome is when the user forgets to cache an offline area or when they are working consistently offline. Can we customzie the default basemap that gets downloaded with QuickCapture so it is has more detail? I'd want to cache a vtpk for the incident area with as much detail possible (at least streets) and have it ship with the project. This will help reduce confusion, because right now they just get a generic, low res map of the continents.
Is there a solution for this now or coming in v1.13? v1.14?
Is that what the "Map Areas" placeholder in the json is for?
