[PITCH] Greenhouse gas monitoring and raising alerts when they go above a certain amount in regions #84

(your idea goes here)

The influx of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been one of the leading contributors to global warming. With the advent of satellite imagery, its become possible to monitor atmospheric changes over time. Here is a link that talks a bit more about it:

https://www.planet.com/pulse/michael-bloomberg-state-of-california-and-planet-partner-to-deliver-new-satellite-climate-data-solutions/ I am interested to see how we can use planet data to create an alert system that can monitor greenhouse gases over a certain region or area. I feel like this can trigger an action in governments and land owners to act accordingly. Images over time can be classified into categories of high, medium, low greenhouse gas concentration (similar to how forests classify forest fire possibility based on temperature and other climate factors, every day).

What would a hack team for this project work towards in 2 days? Can we hack through planet API data and see if we can find a few features that can help us classify images as high, medium or low greenhouse gas concentration?

How would this project use Planet's data & platform? Planet has access to satellite image data that can be used for training/testing and classification in real time

What obstacles or blockers do you think this project might run into? How much data do we need to train to make a classification? Skillsets needed in terms of identifying features that correspond to high, low or medium

And finally... pitch your idea: why should people hack on THIS project in particular? GHG are one of the core driving factors of climate change on our planet. By building this system we can help curb their emissions and provide a transparent and accurate visualization on how we might be effecting the planet immediately.

Hi Siddharth, let me know if you would like to discuss more. I am interested in the idea but not sure how we can data for ground imaging to detect greenhouse level. I think Radar is much better option.
