I am not an authority on this subject, to be clear, but it seems that this project is unmaintained even though it is heavily used. Judging that @poeml hasnt replied after 10 months, I think for anyone looking at this in the future, you should look elsewhere.
Hi,
I guess, I am the authority on this subject (sorry, could not resist ;)
I am not absent at all; I am just looking what happens to the project, just as everybody else looks what happens to it. So I do the same as you.
Yes, you may look elsewhere. Do that as much as you want. But what you really should do is start contributing, in a way that it generates a release. So fold in the patches and by all means test them.
Simply put: Someone, and it doesn’t matter whom, should make a tarball and call it a release.
I am happy to help with putting it online and that stuff. I just can’t develop and test anymore. (No time anymore, and also I forget things.)
...
On a related note: Marcus Rueckert from openSUSE told me earlier this year that he intends to collect their fixes and improvements as well as the community ones and roll a release. However, I haven’t heard back since then.
Best, Peter

Hey... thanks for replying, I guess I jumped the gun saying that this was abandoned, but I am glad you are alive and well (was a bit concerned after the no response).
Focusing on this project though, I do think someone should spend time to look into testing (I'll take a swing whenever school gives me the time) and making some form of release, since I do know for certain that there is atleast one large organization still using this (I dont think it's secret but discretion is courtesy, eh?) With that in mind, if someone who knows C/py better than I do wants me to try a test setup they can always @ me, I have a few boxes I can test with.
Anyway, good luck to you all, and I'll probably make a PR if I end up doing anything meaningful.
Cheers, gido
An active branch maintained by the openSUSE Project always been here. openSUSE/mirrorbrain
Active is a bit generous, with no update since August, but still nice to see atleast someone holding the torch, but I still would like to see the code updated a bit to add stuff like more proper IPv6 support, but either way it's good to see movement.
What is the status of the Mirrorbrain project?
At Kiwix we rely a lot on it and have a few questions/problems pending but:
Maybe this is only temporary and @poeml plans to come back soon and make a new release, but if this is not the case IMO it would be time now to identify the problem and think about alternatives.
