Genetic interactions to represent redundancy/epistasis

Today I was curating a paper in which they show that:

• deletion of gene X causes an increase in protein A levels
• deletion of gene Y causes an equal / very similar increase in protein A levels
• Double deletion of genes Y and X causes the same phenotype as either of the singles

The conclusion from this is that the gene functions are redundant / are in the same pathway (opposite to the phenotypic enhancement).

This could be captured as a double mutant with the same severity as the single mutant, but from the gene page it would not be obvious that the phenotype of the double mutant is "the same" as the single mutants, and might even seem that the double mutant is worse, just by being there.

This does not fall within any of the genetic interactions, but seems to be in the same realm. To be discussed?

This has come up a few times, and I agree we should probably have an epistasis curation type. I thought we had discussed it recently, and that there was an open ticket on the Canto tracker, but I can't find it. The only ticket I can find is this one:

https://github.com/pombase/curation/issues/177 which was closed when I moved it to a doc called "future" for things we might put in the next grant. However, I guess for things like this, sooner is better because of the work involved in fixing legacy annotation.
