This is exciting!

Can it be made optional? I don't mind it being enabled by default but I prefer clean desktop if possible.

@senntore We are going to add some settings which will allow you to hide desktop icons. I am curious though, why would you have contents in the Desktop folder if you don't want them shown on the desktop?

Context menu option to toggle desktop icons like Windows 11 can work.

There will probably be some more options in there later.

That's great! I don't usually have files there but sometimes desktop files for steam games are added there, probably because I forget to uncheck the option when installing them. I have the desktop icons extension disabled in Pop OS 22.04, so I didn't gave it much attention at the time. But yes, it's not as big of an issue.

Desktop icons as well as the ridiculously organized start menu are the most hated things of M$oft Windows for people with OCD. Many arch packages as well as steam install .desktop files. I do not use Linux for it to be like Windows. Thank you for making it optional. Configuration with ease is an amazing approach Cosmic has been taking.

For me, desktop icons and activators are one of the most important features. I keep system applications on the dock and activators for non-system applications on the desktop. I hope that in Cosmic this will not work as poorly as in Gnome + DING. And there will be freedom of choice and not compulsion as in Gnome.
