Wouldn't it be better if mappers had some level of control over the gameplay HUD instead?
Hard one to adjust for, since existing beatmaps will need to be considered. One could argue the tutorial is a special case here, so I would be interested in other storyboards which are affected adversely by the break overlay.
Most if not all existing beatmaps with storyboards show really elaborate animations during break times. Though disabling the break overlay all in all wouldn't be the wisest idea.
I think it would be better to hide the break overlay when the HUD Visibility is set to never. There would be cases where the player doesn't want to see the grade / score (and any other elements) if they are trying to actively hide them during gameplay. (I was kinda iffy if this issue is JUST for storyboard reasons but that is a secondary for me)
There are some beatmaps that take advantage of break times for showing some stuff in a storyboard which is currently being blocked by a counter, like new beginnings by pishifat
My proposal is to add a visual option for hiding the counter.
