I downloaded hiroshige-waveshare-5.0 disk image, installed on SD inserted into Pi 3B, attached Waveshare 5" HDMI touchscreen, connected powered speaker to 3.5" audio jack and it works as expected. Did you change any default configuration? Do you use the original Waveshare 5" display? Did you try to adjust volume?
I've found some issues related to the touchscreen events. I described the fix here: https://github.com/project-owner/PeppyPlayers.doc/wiki/Known-Issues I will update the disk images soon. But that should not affect the audio output.
Not sure if it is the OEM screen or a knock off. Bought it on Amazon, so anyone's guess. Further information, I was working on the setup of Hokusai and now it is doing the same thing.
The screen itself does not have an audio port on it. The two connections to the PI are the GPIB and the HDMI. Everything else seems to be working as expected. I did do some editing of the configs. Trying the Hiroshige with a clean install now and seeing what will happen with no changes.
I can get a couple pictures if that helps.
The writing on the back of the display is: 5inch HDMI Display 800X400 Pixel XPT2046 Touch Screen Controller Rev3.1
If that helps at all.
OK after much testing I have narrowed it down a little. Everything seems to work OK until I set up the screen saver. For one thing would like the weather here in Winnipeg, and not in Washington DC. Not sure if that gives you any clues. Will try and narrow down what in the screen saver causes the sound to go away.
One of the reasons could be that it crashes at some point. Do you change weather settings from the Web UI? Yesterday I've updated the source files and disk images with the bug fix in screensavers. Please try the new version it could probably help. Also show your weather configuration file after your changes. I could test it on my side. It's located here: https://github.com/project-owner/Peppy/blob/master/languages/English-USA/weather-config.txt
I change the weather info via Web UI. Trying the new IMG file now. Will check the weather config file too. And upload it here is need be. Another interesting thing, as the screen savers go by the VU meters are not registering anything. As if nothing is playing.
Some online radio stations or files provide very low signal level which is not enough for VU Meter. Try to switch to another station or file.
If you will still see the issue with audio please try to run the ' sudo raspi-config' command from the terminal and make sure that 'Headphones' (not HDMI) is selected in the menu /System Options/Audio.
Upgraded to current release, everything seems to be working fine now!

Great!
I installed hokusai-waveshare.5.0 on my PI 3b. I have the 5" display attached and the speakers are connected the the PI 3.5mm audio jack and everything works as expected. When I tried out hiroshige-waveshare.5.0 on the same PI, and in the exact same config, there is no sound at all. Can anyone shed some like on this and how I might get this to work.
