Hello hello everyone (EXCITED AND WITH ENERGY) welcome back to Office Hours. A show about how to make a successful jump from college to young professional life. We know that landing your first job can often be an intimidating, complicated and stressful process, but its not impossible! (UP ENERGRY) And we’re here to help by giving you acccess to some of the brightest minds in business to get their advice for how to build a successful career. Take what you can (short pause), pick what you like and listen for that stroke of brilliance that you can use to help you get hired.

I’m Caroline Radke and with my co-host Brett today on the we have John Murphy, Chief Financial Officer at Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola is one of the names that most people around the world would recognize. Successful marketing campaigns have propelled Coca-Cola to a global phenomenon as they have built lasting, meaningful relationships with consumers across the world. One way that they have been able to build such relationships is through the aspect of personalization, which John Murphy dives deeper into today. {THIS JUST SEEMS LIKE A VERY HARSH TRANSITION FROM THE PRESONALIZATION TO REGARDLESS OF WHAT MAJOR. I THINK YOU PROBABLY SHOULD FOCUS ON COCA COLA THEN SWITCH TO HIS BIO IN A SEPARATE SINGULAR PARAGRAPH} Regardless of what degree you are pursuing or what major you decided on, John Murphy has pointed out crucial qualities that all students should focus on improving as these are the ones that leaders in today's world seek out and will ultimately drive you to success. His international experience, from finishing college and starting his career in Dublin, Ireland, before moving internationally to Japan, followed by further experience in Asia, Europe, and ultimately Atlanta, Georgia in the United States, has led to some remarkable discoveries and unique perspectives that he has shared with us. Coming out of college, he was not 100% sure what he wanted to do, but he believed that with a strong background in finance, you can't go very wrong. In those days, he enjoyed business studies and he enjoyed the numbers. He felt strongly that with a solid foundation in finance, options for his future would be created, so ultimately, it was a no risk move early on in his career.

During his fourth year at Price Waterhouse, he was given the opportunity to join Coca-Cola as an internal auditor. What was the main goal of that job? Travel. One of his assignments was to Japan, and at the end of that assignment, he was offered a full time position. His open-mindedness allowed him to make this big transition, and it was one that he believed was an awesome opportunity even though it was not part of a grand plan for him.

John Murphy held various positions at Coca-Cola before becoming the CFO in 2019. I'm sure most of you have either drank a Coca-Cola, drank one of their products, or seen one before. However, Coca-Cola is much more than a sparkling beverage that so many consumers around the world enjoy. On May 8th, 1886, Dr. John Pemberton sold the first glass of Coca-Cola at Jacobs' Pharmacy in downtown Atlanta, and since then, the company has grown to become a global powerhouse in the beverage industry. Since the beginning, Coca-Cola has been revolutionary and unique in their advertising campaigns, and each one brings global consumers closer together. Coca-Cola strives to inspire moments of optimism and happiness and to create value and make a difference. One such difference is their commitment to sustainability. Since 1917, their efforts have covered a wide range of topics including: water sustainability, women empowerment, community well-being, sustainable packaging, climate protection, human and workplace rights, and sustainable agriculture. John Murphy is a inspirational leader at Coca-Cola, and he has experienced it all, and all around the world too.

We go through his unique contributions and important insights in this interview, as well as key points for students to remember. He will share his knowledge on international moves, Coca-Cola campaigns, and the beverage industry as a whole. His stories through his many years with Coca-Cola are really interesting and his advice is impactful for all of you listening. Let's get straight to it...
