For me, "Return-Oriented Programming" means "metastasis of cancer cells".

Cancer cells, which is the result of "abnormally grown cell" is used to be a part of our body. Benign cancer cells don't affect our body but malicious cancer cells spread through our blood vein (which is called metastasis) and cause cancer. Attacked gadgets used in return-oriented programming is as similar as cancer cell: if that gadgets are not touched, it is benign but otherwise, abnormally changed return address mislead the code and its affect is spread like metastasis.
