Hey, I have exactly the same problem. But first it's a PWA, so you can do it without your extra apps as a Progressive Web App on your homescreen. But the real issue, in this “black screen” you can't get back. Also, you can download single photos to the gallery by clicking on “More...”, but not multiple photos. These two problems keep me from setting up Memories as a family photo cloud. Is there a chance that these issues will be fixed?
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Obviously there is no iOS app for Memories, but the WebUI look gorgeous on my phone so it’s no big deal.
However on iOS if you try and make Memories into a “Web App” using a solution like This shortcut or even This app then you end up with no real way to download anything back to your phone if you need to.
When you tap “Download” there are a few ways this ends up failing depending on what Shortcut or App you use:
Most common is a black screen with a generic “image” icon, with an option to open in one specific app, or “more”. On my iPhone the option is Instagram, on my iPad its Pixelmator, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change what app is shown. If you tap “more” you can download to wherever you want, but then your stuck on that black screen with no way out.
Second most common is when you tap “Download” the image will open inside the web app on an unformatted white screen. This wouldn't be as bad since you can swipe to go back, but you cant long press the image to bring up the context menu so theres no way to save it.
In all cases you can’t Download multiple images at once.
Describe the solution you'd like To be honest I have no real ideas, but I wanted to bring up the topic for discussion since Mobile use is make or break for many people.
While everything works fine from inside a full browser, most normal users would prefer a Home Screen icon which is possible on iOS but memories isn’t fully useable with this issue.
Im not even sure if there’s anything that can be done about this, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Describe alternatives you've considered I have tried numerous “Kiosk browser” apps, and they all fail. Some of them are even fairly expensive. The problem with them all is I don’t think any of them took downloads into consideration.
Additional context
This is the black screen you get stuck on.
