And what vo do you have selected in gnome-mplayer? If you have vdpau selected,
you
might try x11,xv or gl and see if the problem still exists.

Can you see if SVN gives any better results? Since you have nvidia drivers I'm
not
expecting much.

I have flickering on fullscreen using vdpau, when the control panel slides
away. X11,
gl2 etc. all work fine without flicker.
I am using a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT with 195.36.15 drivers and GTK 2.20 on
Ubuntu
10.04. GNOME MPlayer version is 0.9.9.2.

Can you please test SVN, it uses a different method of drawing the control bar
in
fullscreen mode.

That does indeed fix it. Thank you.

Do you see any other type of tearing on the nvidia system?

Fixed by enhancement to control bar.

the svn 1712 not exactly fixed, but it is improved though. Now when you hover
the
mouse over the controls it does not flicker, however when it hides or shows it
flickers.

wonghow, do you have an nvidia video card? If so are you using the nvidia
drivers?

Can you try other drivers and see if that fixes it. I have had a few reports
similar
to this and all of them involve the nvidia drivers.
