Enhancement: Show controls only on mouse-over in fullscreen mode

An option to show the control bar only on mouse-over would be very nice. That 
way there is no need to wait for the bar to auto-hide after each time you pause 
the video (for example to read an especially long subtitle). This feature is 
about the last thing that keeps me going back to Windows and Media Player 
Classic for my media needs.

In order to not just match but exceed MPC, the mouse pointer should also be 
made invisible when the controls are hidden in the full screen mode. That way 
there is no need move the pointer to a corner of the screen so it won't be in 
the way.

In order to make it easier to show the control bar, only the y axis of the 
mouse should be checked. That way it's enough to move the cursor to the bottom 
of the screen. Then again I see no reason for the control bar not to span the 
whole width of the screen anyway.

You do not say what version of gnome-mplayer you are using, but it sounds like 
an older version. I believe upgrading to 1.0.2 (1.0.4 is current) or higher 
should give you what you are looking for.

Sorry for the lack of version information. I am using the latest 1.0.4 version. 
Still, I could not find an option for the behavior I described either in the 
programs preferences menu or gconf-editor. The closest things I found were the 
settings about auto-hiding the control bar after a timeout.

The timeout thing isn't what I had in mind as the control bar appears from the 
slightest mouse movement and disappears only after the timeout. In the 
meanwhile it often hinders or blocks the second line of long subtitles. In 
addition it is just quite annoying when it pops up unintentionally.

P.S.
The auto-hide-timeout setting in gconf-editor didn't seem to have any effect. I 
tried restarting gnome-mplayer after the change. I tested both 1 and 10 
seconds. A one second timeout would have mitigated my problem a bit. Then 
again, it might also make actually using the bar quite annoying.

Ok, in the current SVN code I have made it so that once the control box 
disappears it will only reappear when the mouse is at the bottom of the screen.

On my machine the mouse does disappear, so it may depend on your window 
manager. 

I do not want the control box to fully span the bottom of the window, because 
on widescreen displays it becomes to large.

BTW, you can force the controls to stay hidden by pressing 'c'

Thanks. I hope the box also disappears immediately when the mouse is moved up. 
I didn't test it yet though as it seemed to have quite a few dependencies to 
install. Some kind of nightly builds would be nice. :)

The reason I don't use 'c' to hide the bar is that I watch videos from my TV 
and use a wireless mouse as a remote controller. Keyboard is a bit bulkier to 
move around each time.
