Got an answer from google groups..
You will need to configure the physical drives in arrays using the HP hpssacli command line admin utility.
The TUI (ESOS GUI) doesn’t support the configuration of arrays from physical disks in HP systems.
Once the arrays are configured and mounted as Linux devices all the rest of the configuration can be done in TUI as per normal.
The reason for this is that the HP command language for array configuration isn’t easy to translate into the TUI menu items and it’s been pushed down the dev priority list.
A few of the users who have HP kit (like me) have offered to fix this but we have all run out of time and not got to it either.
Getting the HP array health alerting is more important to me and I haven’t had time to do that either… although I would like to look at it this year… (maybe both…)

Hi. I made a bootable ESOS image with the hpssacli-2.30-6.0.x86_64.rpm driver, as listed in the install script (HP Smart Array Controllers (Gen8+)) The server I'm using is a HP 380DL G9.
The server boots and enters ESOS configuration menu. But when i try and make a an Hardware RAID it says that theres no RAID controller. The RAID controller is HP Smart Array P440ar.
Any ideas ?
