fails to take screenshots with mplayer

Using mplayer (and not mplayer2) gnome-mplayer silently fails to take 
screenshots. The interesting thing in the log is the following bit:

GMLIB-Message: sending VFCTRL_SCREENSHOT!
GMLIB-Message: failed (forgot -vf screenshot?)

screenshot does not work with all VOs. The hardware VOs such as XVMC and VDPAU 
are not supported by mplayer.

Okay, I see. Looks like I've also changed the VO while testing with mplayer. 
It'd be good to have a proper error message instead of failing silently.

No, I didn't change the VO. Seems like mplayer2's vdpau is able to take 
screenshots, but the version from mplayer does not.
