Shading bug with covers

Describe the bug

How can we reproduce this bug or crash?

It seems to happen whenever there is a lighting gradient across the block such as it being in a corner. The glitch happened whether the gradient ran North/South or East/West. I stopped testing when I realized I wasn't getting my covers back when I broke the cables. The ceiling was white concrete. I believe it was totally vanilla but I was running the ATM6 modpack.

I saw the same issue on MC 1.18.1

I have the same bug in Vault Hunters 3.13. it is running on Minecraft 1.18.2. Edit: Just found out that turning off smooth lighting fixes the issue.
