Day 0 - Pre-reading

Participants are asked to familiarise themselves with the materials for one of the following major Software Carpentry (SWC) lessons:

A number of the activities during the course involve teaching short segments of these lessons, so participants are advised to pick the one that they would like to teach. They don't need to know the material by heart - they just need to have read through from start to finish and understand the general topics and concepts covered.

Day 1 (Wed 11 Feb) - Theory, Feedback & Engagement

12:00 - 12:30 Feedback Bill Inside-out, rubrics another 3-min lesson (this time in front of the class), then 5-min round

3:30 - 5:00 Compelling teaching Bill three elements of motivation, demotivation, empathizing with learners, introductions, problem framing homework: think of how you're going to introduce your topic, demotivational stories

For those who are interested, we'll head down to Tsubu Bar for drinks and a quick bite to eat straight after class, before heading off to an Open Knowledge Foundation meetup that starts at 6pm in the city.

Day 2 (Thu 12 Feb) - Planning and Managing the Classroom

There will be a group dinner from 6:30pm at Pizza by the Metre (our shout!). Drinks are BYO (there's a bottle shop at 304 Lygon St between Faraday and Grattan Streets, right around the corner from Pizza by the Metre).
