Localization problem with keyboard and F1-10 characters #145

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Instal revision from r229-r236 (only that i tested)
2. Try enter character F1 or others

Combination LeftShift+number should give output of Fnumber,
as was in previous versions (for example stable 1.3), but it
produces same character as with Alt, !@# etc.

I think it's problem with localization, as in that versions
i can propertly enter polish letters as ŁĄę etc. So maybe
something with reading keycombination messed up.
(blame me if you know about that and it's just in fact dev version :))

I tried emulation of all available terms in settings but without
success.

Off course i test it on Android 1.5 :)

I had to move the Fn keys to the key that produces "tab" If you hold down the
tab
key and press a number, it will make the Fn key again. It was to accomodate the
soft
keyboard on the Magic, but I might be able to only do that when a hardware
keyboard
is present.

If you know that the right-side shift + numbers produce the Fn keys, is it
acceptable
to you how it is right now?

Strange but I cannot get the Fn keys with right-shift+number, tried with 'Polish
programmer' keyboard and with standard settings keyboard with same poor result,
no Fn
key.

Yes surly it's acceptable, in my opinion it even could be search key :) doesn't
matter realy, it should be only usable :)

Tried that on r236-all and r236-europe. Cannot only test diffrent term
emulation as
when i go to settings got Force close.

Okay, I'll take a look at it. I don't think the search key can be used, but that
might have changed in 1.5.

I checked recently revision r251 and this problem persists, but other as force
close
on system menu were solved.

So good work.

Also I found another problem but it's refer to Polish Programmer Keyboard, as it
takes right Alt as key to generate polish locale letters, connectbot can't use
this
alt to generate '/' i supposed :) I only want you know that, i don't issue that
:)

I saw that you add Polish locale to ConnectBot and i think maybe you need a
little
help with translation?

I still haven't looked at this, but you can look at the Polish translations at

Ok, I translated everything. So you can include it in new revision.

Just tried r352. it works great, but neither "eurocentral" nor "english"
supports the
funktion keys. I really miss them because my prefered editor needs them.

I think r354 will fix the problems.

On hardware keyboards you can use shift+number again. On software keyboards,
you can
use ctrl+number (trackball press, then the number of the virtual keyboard)

I confirmed that F1-12, but now localized keyboards don't work.
Tried only with polish keyboard, can someone with other keyboards try
input localized characters, for example Greek or others?

Is there possibility to enter characters allow by long key press
on hardware keyboard? If so for me it's all fixed.

You mean the keys are out of order?

Original comment by kenny@the-b.org on 4 Jul 2009 at 4:02

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Not really. Keyboard works fine but in Polish language we have localized
Letters which are accessible throught long key press with other special
Characters or throught speciall application called "Polish Programmer
Keyboard". Borth of them don't work.

Oh, that's a different issue, really. The only thing I can offer right now is
using
the virtual keyboard in portrait mode.

There is already a ticket for localization which would be "characters not on
the keyboard"
